Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
45 to 60 minutes (including blood draw and preparation)
Avoid anti-inflammatory medications for 2 weeks; gradual return to activity over 2 to 4 weeks
Platelet-rich plasma therapy concentrates the healing components of your own blood, specifically platelets and their growth factors, and delivers them directly to damaged tissue. By amplifying your body's natural repair mechanisms at the site of injury, PRP accelerates healing in tendons, ligaments, joints, and soft tissue. Dr. Osman prepares PRP in-office using advanced concentration protocols.
How It Works
- 1A small blood draw is taken (similar to a routine lab draw)
- 2Your blood is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets
- 3The platelet-rich concentrate is prepared (typically 5 to 10x baseline concentration)
- 4Under ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance, PRP is injected at the site of damage
- 5Growth factors stimulate tissue repair over the following weeks
Benefits
- Uses your own biology; no foreign substances or drugs
- Stimulates actual tissue repair, not just symptom relief
- Minimal risk of allergic reaction or rejection
- Can be combined with other treatments for enhanced outcomes
